Reading the room: the tension track
2026-09-14
Last time we promised to talk about the tension track. It is the one display in CRISIS that nobody owns: Blue pushes it, Red pushes it, Black pushes it — and every push is counted where all three can see it.
Most games let escalation hide inside private plans. We wanted the opposite. A crisis should have a weather system that everyone at the table can read at a glance. When the track climbs, the room changes: arguments get shorter, alliances get more expensive, and yesterday’s small provocation becomes today’s liability.
Cross the warning line and the facilitator announces it — publicly, to every side at once. Stay above the line, and the exercise shifts into a new phase with its own rhythm and its own stakes. Nobody is dragged there by a single rival; the whole table walks in with its eyes open.
Designing the track meant deciding what counts as pressure. Our answer: everything does. The only question the track ever asks is direction.
